Sept 14 2011 - Chinook fishing will re-open September 16th 2011. From buoy 10 and up. You can keep two fish in any combination. Two Chinook, two Coho, or one of each. No more than two fish per day. All Coho must be fin clipped. No jacks below Tongue Point.
Also, the crabbing is starting to pick up. So, it's worth the effort to go crabbing. Shells are firm now.
September 3rd 2011 September 2nd 2011
Sept 01 2011 - Where did all the people go? Fishing in the river has been very good. Until they decided to close the retention of Chinook. Then, allot of people decided to quit fishing. Very unfortunate. The Coho run is still to come! But, apparently there isn't much interest in the fishery. You can still fish for Chinook above Tongue Point. From buoy 44 to Rocky Point. With these soft tides this week end, it should be very good Chinook fishing. Your allowed two fish. Only one can be a Chinook. It's hard to get a good fishing report from the river. With only a handful of people fishing not much information is available. Some are doing quite well. And others, just soaking their bait. The Coho have to come in the river sooner or later. September should be a very good month. That is if anyone wants to try for Coho. They will not be reopening the Chinook fishing in the river. Seems like the number of Coho coming into the river is increasing. But not enough to draw an interest. But, hopefully the Coho count will improve.
New Ocean Regulation: The retention of Chinook will start September 5th. Two fish, Only one can be a Chinook. For Ocean Only! This fishery should last through September 30th. Or until quota is met.
The Ocean fishery is still doing very well. Most are fishing around the CR buoy. Yesterday our boat was fishing in the ocean and headed north. They had their limit by 9:30. Real nice Coho. They said they were catching allot of fish that they couldn't keep. Fish that had that dreaded fin. Below are the last two trips.
August 22nd 2011 - Wow, What a weekend! Just like the good ole days. Fishing was "Great!" Which makes for happy fishermen. Friday, everybody caught fish. They were all over the place. Above and below the bridge on the Washington side. In front of Astoria above the bridge. And along the green line and the saw dust pile to Hammond and back. There are more Chinook in the river than Coho. But the numbers of Coho are starting to increase. I saw a bunch of really nice fish Friday. Just exciting to see! There were good reports for Saturday too. Although I don't think as many fish were caught as Friday. Sunday was very good too. A few more Coho being caught. In fact they caught more fish in the river Sunday then they did in the Ocean. That's a little unusual. The ocean fishing Sunday was just off. Water temperatures have allot to do with it. But that will change and the fishing will be hot again. Typical fishing. Here today gone tomorrow! Fishing today was very good. In spite of the wind this afternoon. It got darn windy. The bait of choice still remains "Fresh Herring." Some are using spinners. But for the most part, many are still using fresh Herring. The Delta Divers are still number one when it comes to divers. New this year is the UV prism on the Deltas. I'll be getting a new batch in the next few days. Along with a new shipment of the "Shortbus Flashers." They are also fishing deep. The fish below are from the ocean. It was Sunday, the day the river did better than the ocean. But, as you can see it's all in the pictures. Until next report. Good luck and Great fishing!
August 18th 2011 - The ocean fishing is very good. Limits everywhere. The Lady Dee went out this morning with a small load. They were done before lunch time. The fish are starting to get some nice size to them now. Most of the fish were caught around the CR buoy. Also heard a few of the boats went North and getting some nice fish. Bait of choice is still the "Fresh Herring." Anchovy works very well too. But most don't like it because it's more difficult to use. The buzz is a new Flasher called the "Shortbus Flasher" They really like the action and the new UV prism on it. Heard we are on Face Book as a place to buy them. Pretty Cool ! And very good reports from the river. It's exciting, people are getting their limits of Chinook and Coho. Of course not everyone is getting their limit. Heard it's an early morning and late afternoon bite. Just on either side of the tide for about an hour or so. High water slack seems to be the best for today. The only thing working against the fisherman is the wind in the late afternoon. Always seems to get windy that time of day. It just gets so choppy. Not fun to fish in. Fish were caught above and below the bridge. Also along the green line. The bottom of the ebb worked well for some today. They were working along the saw dust pile to Hammond. Fishing is definitely picking up speed. So, grab your poles and go fish! Good Luck and Great fishing!
August 15th 2011 - Both River and Ocean Salmon fishing is much the same as the last report. Fishing in the river continues to be off and on. Most fish are being caught along the green line. And the Young's Bay area. You get about an hour of fishing on the top and bottom of the tide. And then it seems to dry up. As far as the ocean fishery, they are still catching around the CR buoy. Most catching their limits. Now about the Tuna trip. Lets say, it's nothing we can brag about. And if I tell you how many fish they caught, it just wouldn't be any fun. So, I'll just say they got more than one fish and less than 20! How's that? From what we heard, nobody else did very well either. The ocean was so flat. Sometimes that can work against you. The ideal condition is when there is a little chop on the water. And of course more Tuna! Most all boats were using jigs. And there were two boats that had some live bait. But it didn't produce many fish. But, it should be getting time to switch to live bait. So, the next trip we take we'll definitely take live bait. Just in case they decide to take it.
Hope I'll have a good report tomorrow. The Lady Dee is going out for a tuna trip. Reports on the Tuna are pretty good. So, I'll let you know how things went. Heard the Tuna are about 50/60 miles. We'll give it our best tomorrow. Until Then, Good Luck and Good Fishing!
Old Reports
August 29th 2009 - - - Tomorrow is the last day for fishing in the ocean and for Chinook. Starting September 1st you can keep three Coho per person. No Chinook. All Coho must be fin clipped. The river has been very good. Fishing along the normal spots. Along the green line and the saw dust pile to Hammond. Also, it's been a good bite in the afternoons above the bridge on the Oregon side. They are using fresh herring and anchovies. And spinners and flashers are working well too. The hot blade this year is the red and white blade. And the new UV Delta Divers. We have a good selection of Delta Divers in the shop.
August 14th 2009 - - - The River Fishery has defiantly picked up !!!!!!!! I've been trying all day to make some sort of report. Been pretty busy. Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining at all. Just not enough time in the day. So, real quick...River is Hot. Catching all along the green line. I've seen and heard of limits!! Catching their Coho and Chinook. Crabbing is also real good !! Surprising, because usually this time of year the crab are in their soft shell stage. But, reports are they are firm and lots of them. This is fishing just off buoy 20 and 21 in the river. Oh, bait of choice for the river Salmon seem to be FRESH HERRING. I probably sell more Herring than Anchovies. But anchovy is also a very good bait too. And some are using fish flash, spinners, limits out, and this new blade called Lou pack spoon. That all for now!
August 11th 2009- - - The Ocean is still the place to be! With the exception of yesterday. The ocean kicked up and was not a very nice place to be. Real sloppy, but they still caught all of their fish. Today was a beautiful day in the ocean. Below, we have several pictures of the last few days. The fish are between buoy four and two and the CR buoy. Some days they have fished North. Nice fish there, but it usually gets pretty rough in that area. And I heard it's dried up as far as the big Chinook. The ocean fishery this year is just incredible. Fish everywhere! Nice to see such a good fishery !!!
The River - - - Fish are starting to come into the river now. Today, I talked to several fishermen that caught their Chinook AND Coho by the Megler Bridge. And also by the saw dust pile to Hammond. Just trolling back and forth. There are more Chinook right now than Coho. In the river you can only keep one Chinook and one Coho. Or two Coho. All Coho have to be fin clipped. And it doesn't matter on the Chinook. Fresh Herring is the bait to use. Some are also using spinners and a rig called limit out. With fishing the river, the place to be is right at buoy 10 on the flood (in coming) The fish are chasing the bait fish which are flushing in. Also just at the bottom of the ebb seems to be working well between Warrenton and Hammond. Fishing the river is no comparison to the ocean. But, there is definitely fish to catch. And gradually getting better everyday.

July 31st 2009 - - - Ocean Salmon fishing is Awesome! Just like the good old days! The fish are everywhere! The Lady Dee was done fishing this morning before most people get to work. Done by 7:45 am. Sea conditions have been good the last few days. Very little or no fog. And a good bar to cross. Patchy light rain. More like a drizzle than rain and then the sun comes out. The weather for the next three to four days look real good. Most the sport boats will be able to get out there and fish. They were using Fresh Anchovies and a few Herring. Don't cut yourself short of fresh bait. Some days the Un-clipped Coho can be fierce. Going though lots of bait. The fish today were caught between buoy two and the CR buoy. They are also fishing fairly shallow. You can see the divers and several fish chasing the bait. Not much for Chinook yet. Just a few feeder Chinook so far. Won't be long before we start to see more Chinook.
All Coho must be fin clipped. On Chinook, it doesn't matter.
July 31st 2009 July 29th 2009
July 28th 2009 July 27th 2009
July 24th 2009 - - - Ocean Salmon is Still Red Hot !! They left the dock about 6am and was done catching their fish by 8:00am. Back in time for breakfast!
July 23rd 2009 - - - Our Sturgeon fishery re-opens again. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So don't forget to order your "Fresh Bait" Ocean Salmon fishing is still red hot.
July 17th 2009 - - - Heard today, that the Sturgeon fishing was great ! Limits were caught at Tongue Point. Nothing much in the lower river. Just allot of trash fish and crab. Tomorrows tide is a little stronger. Maybe that will help.
July 17th 2009 - - - Ocean Salmon fishing is HOT HOT HOT! Every trip to the ocean is Limits! The fish are getting little bigger and a few Chinook are in the mix. The fish are just outside. Between buoy four and two. They had to deal with a little fog this morning. But the fog didn't last too long.
July 12th 2009 - - - Another great day in the ocean ! All nice Coho.
July 10th 2009 - - - Ocean Salmon fishing is Awesome this year! Last year we had to run south about five miles or so to find any Salmon. But this year, their between buoy four and two. That's great news! With good feed, the fish will grow about a pound a week. And the ocean is full of bait fish. It's been several years since we've had a fishery like this. It's like the good ole days. Not much for Chinook. At least I haven't heard of any being caught yet. It's a little early for the Chinook. Ocean Salmon is open seven days a week. You can keep two fish. Only one can be a Chinook. Or you can keep to Coho.
June 4th 2009 - - - This is a special Sturgeon Trip. The man in the Yellow jacket is 100 years old today! And he can still catch fish !!!!
June 14th 2009 - - - I've been avoiding giving a fishing report. Because it's not what we expected. Once the bite has taken off, it usually stays fairly consistent. The fish that have been caught, have been on the turn of the tide. On an out going tide. And only lasts for about 30 to 45 minutes and then the bite dies. Reports for Tongue Point have been very mixed. Heard the bite was just terrible yesterday. Then this fisherman walks in and said he saw quite a few big Sturgeon caught Tongue Point. So, who knows for sure. There were some fish taken at the bottom of the ebb. Just off of Stink House Flats. That only lasted for about 45 minutes or so and then that bite died also.
May 30th 2009 - - - Finally- - - - the Sturgeon bite has taken off !! Yesterday and today has been good. (Overall ) Fishing along the flats just off Hammond and at Stink House flats. The word is, whether your fishing in the deeper water or shallows the bite has been on the turn of the tide. After that, the bite disappeared. And the boats were searching again. This morning, fish were caught just for a short time during that time. The bait of choice is the fresh anchovies and jumbo sand shrimp. Most said they had better luck with the anchovies. And you know that if you only leave the dock with one bait or the other. You have taken the wrong bait. Best to grab a bit of each. Because you never know what they want from one day to the next.
New Fishing Reports Start May 2009. We're looking forward to the upcoming Halibut and Sturgeon season. Halibut, starts May 1st 2009. Three days a week. Thursday, Friday and Saturday Only. Or until quota is met. Which is 11,014 pounds. There is also a summer season for Halibut. The second season opens August 7th for three days a week. Friday Saturday and Sunday. The Second quota for the Halibut is 15,735 pounds. And will close earlier if quota is met.
The Sturgeon fishery will start May 9th 2009 thru June 28th. Open seven days a week Followed by a small closure and then re-opens July 2nd through July 5th or until the quota is met. New way to measure Sturgeon this year. The legal length is 41" to 54" From the nose to the fork of the tail.
